I like it on the kitchen table…

October 7, 2010

All through October it’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in British women under 35. Each year, 46,000 people are diagnosed, 300 of which are men and this, sadly, is on the increase. However, thanks to scientific research and greater awareness leading to earlier detection, survival rates are improving.

There are lots of events and free support services going on this month all over the country and I would really encourage you to get involved wherever you are. Those of you on facebook may have noticed the viral trend of rather (ehem…) provocative status updates. I read an article today, apparently it’s a way of generating awareness for the cause (and not a new liberalisation of my friends’ attitudes to their private lives!). It refers to where we like to leave our handbag at home. The link between this and breast cancer is a bit lost on me, I loved last year’s bra colour campaign; much more baffling to the opposite sex. But all in the name of a good cause…

Last night was the Breast Cancer Care London fashion show. Sufferers and survivors of breast cancer took to the catwalk surrounded by family and friends. It was a glamorous, star-studded evening and such a fantastic way to raise money and awareness. It seems a wonderful night was had by all, I have resolved to go next year.

Last weeks Stylist magazine went pink and was dedicated to the women fighting breast cancer. Their acclaimed (and greed inducing) Style List page featured items that are donating some of the proceeds from their sales to breast cancer charities. Our office fave are the Katia Lombardo stilletos available from my-wardrobe.com. Who wants red soled Louboutin’s when you can have pink soled Lombardo’s? Gorgeous! And for you mummies-to-be, Palmers Cocoa Butter have released a special edition of their massage lotion for stretch marks in a pink bottle. So you can keep your bumps beautiful and do your bit for Breast Cancer Care.

If you fancy getting involved have a look at the website for fundraising ideas.

Now…must start saving for those Lombardo heels.
