It’s Jeans for Genes Day!

Jeans for Genes Day 2010

Friday 1st October. Jeans for Genes Day 2010

Today is Jeans for Genes Day, so all of us here at Amoralia HQ have donned our denim and donated to this fab charity. Now in its 15th year, the charity has raised a staggering £35 million! Genetic disorders are rare, but with more than 4,500 disorders currently recognised, 1 in 25 children born in the UK are affected.

They aim to raise £2.5 million from today’s fund raising. The money donated helps them to provide care and support for children and families that need it, as well as fund research that could change their lives in the future. You can visit their website to find out about the projects they’re currently working on that will be supported by your donation.

The charity really can change lives. 7year old Eleri suffers from Spinal Muscular Atrophy, a genetic disorder that affects the nerve cells in her spine so she can’t use her muscles and they waste away. With help and funding from Jeans for Genes and The Newlife Foundation for Disabled Children, Eleri received a new wheelchair that has given her renewed independence. Something I’m sure I take for granted daily…

So whether you are working double denim, doing a sponsored run or just donating online, please do your bit today. My favourite J4G fundraiser has to be the Ebay auction in which you can bid for supermodel Jodie Kidd’s denim shoes. They were handmade out of her favourite jeans by UpperStreet.com and all proceeds will be going to J4G.

What a jean-ious idea! (ahem…sorry).
