Amoralia’s favourite advice sites

July 30, 2010

Pregnancy can be a wonderful, exhilarating and confusing experience. New mummies-to-be are bound to have lots of questions along the way,  so we’ve compiled a list of our favourite sites written by people who know exactly how to help you.

1. pregnancy-info.net

This site is a great starting point for a first time mum-to-be. It gives comprehensive yet easy to understand information, minus the usual jargon and covers everything from conceiving to potty training! Phew…

2. nct.org.uk

The NCT website is a brilliant place to find local support – often centres run by other parents. We can’t recommend the antenatal weekends enough –  you get to meet other expecting couples, like you, who become invaluable friends in those early months. There are also lots of really practical articles worth a read such as this guide to expressing and storing milk.

3. midwivesonline.com

This site is written for mums by midwives (hmm, obviously). They offer authoritative advice on all sorts of topics – for instance look at their section on exercise during pregnancy or your employment rights and the maternity benefits you’re entitled to – stuff every mum should know.

4. babydirectory.com

How many mums or mums-to-be do you know that have time to trudge round the shops? That’s where the babydirectory.com comes in. It lists all the essentials such as breast pumps, cots and pushchairs, and exactly where to find them. Customers can upload reviews so you can also find out what other mums thought before you buy.

5. babynames.co.uk

If all that reading has left you feeling a bit weary, have some fun with this baby name generator. See what weird and wonderful combinations you get given (office faves include Andrea Nora Hart and Tobias Adam Canterbury).  Hours of entertainment!

6. Amoralia.com

Finally for a definitive guide on how to measure yourself for a maternity bra see the fitting room page of our site. It offers advice to help you find out if  you’re wearing the correct size. Then once you’ve measured yourself there’s even a handy calculator that does the conversion for you.
